Electricity Purchasing Program

For nearly 100 years, RAM has continually looked for new ways to serve our membership.  Besides our lobbying services we have created numerous programs designed to help you compete in today’s marketplace against larger companies, such as our unparalleled workers compensation program, other lines of insurance, credit card processing and cooperative freight.

RAM and our energy counsel have finalized an agreement on an electricity program for our members.  The goal of the RAM energy program is to protect our members power purchase contracts, give them stability in their rates and ultimately save them money as we grow the amount of the power purchasing.

One of the most unpredictable costs for small employers in Massachusetts has been energy.  For over four years, RAM has offered an electricity program featuring flat, stable rates for periods of one or two years.  More than 300 RAM members have taken advantage of this program through Dominion Energy Solutions.  Since market rates had dropped over the past year we had held off offering a new fixed rate program.  Participating members were charged monthly market based rates which have generally been dropping.  Although no one has a crystal ball and can predict the future of electricity rates, many industry observers believed in early 2011, that the price of electricity generation had dropped about as far as it is likely to go. In March 2011 we offered a new roll-out. This enrollment period was limited to April 1, 2011.

PARTICIPANTS IN THE PROGRAM PRIOR TO MARCH 2011
: You were automatically moved to the RAM $0.0799/kWh rate in either March or April (depending upon service area), but you needed to re-enroll in order to LOCK IN the flat rate and to elect the term length.  If you did not re-enroll, you will go to the RAM rate only for the next month or so, and will continue to fluctuate monthly with the market going forward.

Current enrollment for the Dominion Retail/RAM Electricity Stability Program has closed.  RAM will keep members informed of future roll-outs.  If you have questions about this program, contact the RAM office at 617.523.1900.
